ECD April Die Cut Designer Challenge

It's time for our April Die Cut Designer Challenge. Check out the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today to see what all the Designers created for the challenge this month.

Our challenge this month is ..... Glittery Backgrounds  add some Silk Microfine Glitter in someway when creating your background for your card this month.

For my card I used the ModaScrap Rose Pocket die to create my glittered background by die cutting the Rose Pocket die using the release sheet that I had saved from a sheet of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet to create a stencil.

************

Elizabeth Craft Designs have another designer challenge giveaway for you. We are giving away "3 x 1/2 oz containers of Silk Microfine Glitter in the colors of your choice"  to 3 winners.

To enter simply leave a comment on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge post and tell us "What is your favorite technique using Silk Microfine Glitter”

We will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing

The winners will be announced on Friday, April 7 on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

***************
Here's how I created my card.

Step 1 -
Use the Rose Pocket die to die cut a piece of release sheet (previously saved from Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape) to create a stencil.
  • Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures approximately 5 3/4 inches x 7 inches. Cover the cardstock with a sheet of Clear Double Sided Adhesive (use a bone folder to ensure adhesive is adhered properly to the cardstock)

  • Remove the release sheet from the adhesive on the cardstock and cover the adhesive with the die cut Rose Pocket stencil we created in the step above. Cover the stencil panel with the release sheet we removed from the adhesive to protect the stencil while you use a bone folder to ensure the stencil as adhered to the adhesive properly.
  • Cover the adhesive which shows through the "Rose Pocket Stencil" with Silverado Silk Microfine Glitter. Remove excess glitter from the card and return to the jar. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger. Use a swiffer sheet to clean up any excess glitter lying around.

  • Carefully remove the 'Rose Pocket Stencil" from the cardstock (this can be used to create another glitter background if desired).
  • Cover the adhesive remaining on the cardstock using Pink Peony Silk Microfine Glitter.  Remove excess glitter from the card and return to the jar. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger. Use a swiffer sheet to clean up any excess glitter lying around.
  • Trim the glittered panel so it measures 3 1/2 inches x 5 1/2 inches.

Step 2 -
Cut a piece of Rosebud Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 1/2 inches x 11 inches. Score and fold along the 11 inch side to create a 5 1/2 inch top folding card.

Step 3 -
Use the largest die from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles to cut a rectangle from Silver Gray Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim the long ends to approx 3/4 inch and adhere the scallop edge under the Rose Pocket Glitter piece.
  • Adhere to the left hand side of the card leaving approximately a 1/4 inch gap between the edge of the card and the glittered panel.
Step 4 -

Use the middle sized die from the Stitched Fishtail Banners die set to die cut a fishtail banner from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Use the second largest die from the Stitched Fishtail Banners die set to die cut a fishtail banner from the Silver Gray Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Layer the two fishtails onto each other and adhere to the lower right hand side of the card using foam  tape.
  • Die cut the word "Sending" from the A Way with Words - Sending Hugs Kisses die set from both Rosebud and Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock. Adhere the Rosebud sentiment to the black sentiment off setting the sentiments slightly so that the black casts a shadow.
  • Adhere sentiment to the fishtail banner.

Step 5 -
Using the ModaScrap Dancing Butterflies die set, die cut two of each the right facing butterfly and full butterfly from Silver Gray and Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Layer the gray butterflies over the black butterflies offsetting slightly so you have a black shadow.
  • Adhere the body only of one butterfly over the body of the the butterfly of the same sort so that the wings can be popped up. Adhere butterflies to card using photo above as a guide.
  • Add Black/Silver Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers to the body of each of the butterflies.

Step 6 - The Inside of Card:
Create a second Rose Pocket Glittered Background panel using the technique explained in step 1. (For my card I added the glitter to my second background so that the colors were reversed - so I added the Pink Peony to the roses first and then the Silverado after removing the stencil).
  • Trim the panel so it measures 1 3/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches.
  • Use the largest die from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles to cut a rectangle from Silver Gray Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim one of the long ends to approx 3/4 inch and adhere the scallop edge under the right hand edge of the  Rose Pocket Glitter Background piece.
  • Adhere the Rose Pocket Glitter background to the left hand side of inside of card.
Step 7 -
Using the word "birthday" from the A Way with Words - Happy Birthday 2 die set and the word "Wishes" from the A Way with Words - Best Wishes die set to die cut from Rosebud Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Adhere sentiment to the right hand side of card.
Step 8 -
Using the ModaScrap Dancing Butterflies die set, die cut the left facing butterfly from Silver Gray and Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Layer the gray butterfly over the black butterflies offsetting slightly so you have a black shadow.
  • Add Black/Silver Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers to the body of the butterfly.
  • Adhere to the top right hand corner of card.

That's it from me today, don't forget to check out the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog to see all the wonderful creations by our talented designers.
